Frequently Asked Questions

#1. Will you cut the tree for us?   Yes, we would be happy to cut any tree you select.  We will also carry it to your vehicle and help tie it down if necessary.  Please feel free to bring a little rope or bungee cords if you would like to tie it to the roof of your vehicle.  If you're not too far away, our oldest son Alex would be happy to deliver your tree with his pickup.

#2. How many trees do you have planted?  As of spring, 2007 we have approximately 1,000 trees.  They range from first year trees less than one foot tall, to 7 year olds approaching 10 feet tall.

#3. Where do you get your nursery stock?
All of our trees come from two major Pennsylvania growers.  Most trees are 2-3 year old seedlings or 3-4 year old transplants.  They arrive in mid-April.  We plant all our trees by hand and the seedlings can be planted at the rate of about 60 per hour while the larger transplants take slightly longer to plant.

#4. Do you trim your trees?  Yes, each tree is hand sheared each year beginning in mid-June with a target completion date of early July.  We have tried several methods of trimming, but have found that an old-fashioned hedge trimmer works best.  We describe our shearing method as "lightly sheared".  Each of our trees has it's own personality!
